The Skin Quilt Project (2010)

In 2010, I directed and produced an 88-minute documentary called The Skin Quilt Project that explored skin color politics from the point of view of African American quilters. Throughout the film quilters from across the country talk about the power of quilting to reshape self-image and identity.

This film was developed for my MFA thesis project and was screened at the 2010 International Black Women's Film Festival in Berkeley, California and across the country in various museums and cultural institutions including the Museum of African Diaspora in San Francisco, CA.

The film features prominent quilters, historians and artists such as Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi, Vermelle "Bunnie" Rodriguez, Carolyn Crump, Nancy Pettway, Kyra Hicks, Dr. Riche Richardson, Dorothy Montgomery, and Bettina Cornelius.
